The Society exists to reach out with a variety of programs and services to dispel the myths associated with the disease and help people affected through information, support and education for patients, their families, health professionals and the public. In addition the Society funds vital local and national research into the cause, cure and care of Alzheimer Disease and other dementia.
As you may imagine, the impact of a diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease or other dementia is often traumatic for the person, the family and the community. From the time of diagnosis, and throughout the disease process family members and caregivers have many questions and require support and assistance.
The Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia has developed a number of programs and services to make access to information and emotional support easy, timely and suited to the person’s needs. In addition, it is important that the general public receives information, so they recognize the challenges people with the disease and their families are facing.
The programs and services of the Society are centered on addressing the need for information and support, through all phases of the disease: pre-diagnostic, diagnostic, role change, chronic care giving, transition to alternative care and end of life.
